OUR COMMITMENT TO CHILD SAFETY

The Westgate Vineyard Church (WVC) is committed to creating and maintaining a child-safe organisation where protecting children from abuse is embedded in the everyday thinking and practice.

WVC has written, adopted, and is implementing a Child Safe Policy, which incorporates the Victorian Child Safe Standards and reflects our desire and dedication to protect children from abuse and to stop it when we become aware of it.

All children who participate in programs, and events delivered by or on behalf of the WVC have the right to feel and be safe. The well-being and safety of children and young people in our care will always be our priority.

WVC has zero tolerance of child abuse and is committed to creating and maintaining a child-safe and child-friendly organisation where all children are valued and protected from abuse.

WVC believes that a child or young person should never experience abuse of any kind and we, therefore, have a responsibility to promote the welfare, safety, care, and protection of all children and young people participating in our church activities.

WVC is committed to:

  • providing a safe and supportive place for all children and vulnerable people to come to

  • protecting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of everyone

  • ensuring all adults involved in children’s activities/events have a current Working with Children Check

  • ensuring all adults involved in children’s activities/events are trained in child protection and child safety procedures before beginning in their role

  • ensuring all staff and volunteers are familiar with our Child Safe Policy and Procedures

Our Child Safe Leader (Julia Mills) is trained, has access to and understands the WVC Child Safe Policy and Procedures, and is responsible for

  • providing support and assistance to anyone who holds a concern about a child’s wellbeing

  • being the key contact for queries or concerns relating to suspected child abuse

  • Reviewing all reasonable grounds for concerns through listening, assessing, and investigating information brought to their attention

  • Ensuring strictest confidence in all matters related to child safety

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the safety and protection of children and young people at WVC please speak with our Child Safe Leader.
